SCOTT BOILARD

Worcester, MASSACHUSETTS, USA

The direction of my current surrealist works are inspired by the struggle of trying to function practically, and even strive, in life while dealing with fear, self-doubt and paranoia. The scenes and subjects, based more on feeling than precise metaphors, are representations of the psychological and physical manifestations that come from these daily contests. They are reactions to an often dark and daunting existence; to dangers, both real and perceived, that one must face in the quest for happiness.

I have always loved the freedom and spontaneity of the Abstract Expressionist approach to painting and use that mindset to arrive at my representational images; I feel this helps to strip away some of the commonly used traditional symbols and create images that are more personal. Surrealism is my vehicle of expression, but instead of delving into the unconscious; I use it to make sense of my waking life.

Scott Boilard is a painter of physical entities both familiar and unearthly. His personal art, as well as his illustration and mural painting, show a love of traditional rendering mixed with the spontaneity of modern composition and color. His surrealist and naturalist pieces are a part of many private collections. Scott’s desire for freedom and control in his work led him to pursue a career as a fine artist along side his illustration and graphic design work. Over the past 24 years he has exhibited in many group, juried, and solo shows in Massachusetts, New York and Russia.
