TORRID | Abstract Impressions

ON VIEW AT THE WHITE ROOM, WORCESTER, MA

MARCH 4 - APRIL 23, 2023 | Juried by Juniper Rag’s Payal Thiffault and Michelle May

Juniper Rag invited artists to submit art that explore how the word “torrid” strikes them through subject matter or materials.

Is it climate change, heat, energy, style or physical attraction? Artists were free to explore and present work reflecting their instinctive response in any medium.

In these times of immense change and a paradigm shift in our society after the global pandemic, we may see the world through a new lens and be more impacted and stimulated by things we now notice more. The emergence we all feel now from the cold winter days make us think of spring, calling for some heat!

Congratulations to the 3 CASH PRIZES for jurors' choice, Patti Kelly, Kaitlyn Malinowski and Tim Gannon and Honorable Mentions, Keri Anderson and Patricia Busso.

TORRID, runs March 4th-Apr 23, 2023

“Juniper Rag Magazine is such a welcome addition to print media focusing on artists, designers and their practices. It exceeded my expectations in quality, layout and content and is a magazine that I will gladly include as a part of my portfolio and display as a staple on my coffee table. I was honored to be included in the inaugural issue welcoming the opportunity to have my work beautifully and permanently displayed in print. As an artist who is fortunate enough to show in many galleries, the paintings shown in Juniper Rag will be forever on display and always accessible to a new and much wider audience, including potential collectors. I paint for myself initially, but ultimately want others to enjoy what I have created and lose themselves in the work’s color, line and sense of place. Juniper Rag offers the unique opportunity to ever expand my reach and increase the opportunity to excite and engage the art loving public.”

— Robin Reynolds

The White Room, hosted by Luis Antonio Fraire and Birgit Straehle is a multi-functional Art Gallery, Event Space & Wedding Venue in the historic Crompton Loom Works (1860) industrial complex, in Worcester’s vibrant Canal District.

The venue is nestled on the back of the building (facing Harding Street), one level below Birchtree Bread Company and shares the ground floor with Crompton Collective. The White Room is next door to the Worcester Public Market and is in the most walkable neighborhood in the city, boasting several newly built and converted living spaces close by. The venue is very unique in that it is also sought after for private events, bringing in hundreds of people who then are introduced to all of this beautiful art, and is also located right next to the new Woo Sox Stadium. Come early and explore the unique shops in the Crompton building like Seed to Stem, The Haberdash, or grab a fantastic coffee at Bedlam Book Café and have a wine tasting at Canal District Wines next door at Worcester Public Market. From African, Indian and Mexico, have a taste of the globe from the vendors there or neighboring restaurants.
