NIGHT

A challenge to reimagine the dynamic relationship between darkness and light.

Darkness is the canvas of the unknown, where shadows weave intricate tales and secrets whisper through the stillness. In the deep hours of night, mystery and danger may lurk. Light, in contrast, is the gifted artist’s stroke, illuminating our world with vibrant hues and casting away the specters of fear until the first rays of dawn. Together, they create a symphony of contrasts. In the darkness our dreams come into light and ignites the spark of inspiration. It is the autumnal equinox, when the veil thins…and the spirts come out and dance—one of our favorite times of year. 

JUNIPER RAG is thrilled to announce our autumn 2024 call for art, NIGHT. Artists around the world to participate in a juried virtual exhibition curated by Payal Thiffault and Michelle May of Juniper Rag. Michelle is the Founder of award-winning Cirque du Noir, an all black attire masquerade that promotes the creative culture of Worcester, Massachusetts. With a passion for the season, this annual call is one of our favorites.

We extend an invitation to artists across all mediums of 2D, 3D work. Photographers and videographers are encouraged to submit work. Video should be under 3 minutes.

Calling all artists to join us as we celebrate NIGHT. We invite artists to submit work that reflects your interpretation of NIGHT and your statement should explain your work in connection to the call. Dark, ethereal or work that conjures a relationship in some way to the subject of NIGHT.

All mediums welcomed. This is a virtual show, international artists, photographers and videographers are encouraged to submit to this call.

Artist statements should connect the work to the language in the call and clearly demonstrate your experience with your process, risk-taking and incorporation of new concepts dealing with the future of art, in whatever capacity that encapsulates for you as an artist. Do not just upload the same artist statement you use for everything. Calls for art dictate a thoughtful interpretation for the curators.

Best in show will receive a $500 social media push: including a blog post, newsletter mention, 2 reels and 2 posts.

With all of our exhibitions, artist statements that are written in direct relation to your interpretation of this call for art will be considered. Curators are tasked with understanding your art from a photograph and through your descriptions. They must understand how your piece applies and what about your work merits inclusion in this particular exhibition. Connecting your ideas to a reason or a story about your perspective is impactful for viewers and other artists, it engages the viewers and encourages the curators to think about your perspective and reason for making your artwork. This story is what connects people to your work.
