A Writer Shares Vulnerability by Making
When one of our writers decided that she would like to contribute to ORIGIN, our art exhibition, we were open to ideas. Sarah Connell Sanders is not one to rest on her laurels. She conceptualized beaded jewelry as take-aways for the event. Snippets of her diary would be the content. She even conjurred up a festive gathering of friends to help her sort the beads. Sarah says, “I was surprised to receive an invitation a few months back to participate in a visual arts show curated by the independent lifestyle publication, Juniper Rag. I’ve written a couple of pieces for the magazine in the past about art and travel, but I don’t consider myself an artist. I began to think about how I could turn my written words into something more aesthetic. Eventually, I settled on acrylic letter beads.” We admire Sarah as a creative writer and as a person that is always willing to go an extra mile. In fact, she is the type that would call up Joni Mitchell to ask that her grandma’s back woods would not be turned into a country club parking lot.
For her spunk and ingenuity, we are grateful. One small bracelet read, “affairs are not fair”. Read her story about making in Worcester Magazine.
