SUSAN SOHYOUNG LEE
Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA, USA
I am a Korean American abstract artist in Los Angeles, CA. After a 25-year career in the nonprofit sector in NYC, DC, and Los Angeles, where I worked on systems change and equity in public education and homelessness/housing, I am now working full-time on art. I combine abstraction, color, text and texture to explore issues of social justice. I have a BA from Harvard University in African-American Women’s Literature, an MBA from Columbia Business School, as well as courses at the Corcoran School of Art and the New York Studio School.
As an Asian American woman committed to social justice, my art explores traumas around race and gender. Through painting, I express my feelings (anger, hope) and my thoughts (solutions, community) about individual trauma and collective trauma specifically around race and gender. Art and design can be powerful tools for change. I combine abstraction, color, text and texture to explore issues of social justice.
