JUNIPER RAG is thrilled to announce VANGUARD unique exhibition for innovative artists from around the world to show their exemplary work in this virtual exhibition curated by art industry visionary Tam Gryn who specializes in the intersection between art and other industries and new creative economies. VANGUARD opens June 1, 2024.
Visit VANGUARD at juniperrag.com/vanguard to explore the transformative intersection with cutting-edge mediums. From the enduring strokes of a canvas to the latest digital marvels, this exhibition bridges the gap between the time-honored contemporary practices and the innovative advances we see today.
VANGUARD is Juniper Rag’s 3rd exhibition in a series focused on pushing boundaries in art practice and incorporating new modern practices into the process. We called for visionary artists to join us in reshaping the canvas where traditional mediums meet technology. VANGUARD celebrates artists demonstrating how technology and artificial intelligence are not simply tools but active collaborators in their unique creative process. As these artists continue to challenge traditional boundaries, the future of AI art promises to be a captivating journey into the unknown. Technology and this new frontier offer artists today unique opportunities to shine in this new frontier. Like all new things, technology in art is controversial. We are seeing that contemporary art will forever be changed, just as the internet has changed global economies. "Technology is rapidly changing our world, for artists and viewers. We no longer view most art in person, but on our devices. With the advent of digital tools and platforms, artists now have a vast array of resources at their disposal, enabling them to experiment, collaborate, and distribute their work with unprecedented ease. This is part of the reason we founded Juniper Rag,” says Juniper Rag Co-Founder, Michelle May. She continues, "Technology has also facilitated the democratization of art, allowing artists to reach a global audience and connect with peers and patrons across geographical boundaries, from Miami to Massachusetts and Mozambique.” Entire communities around the world are being built around digital art. The future is here and Juniper Rag is connecting artists and viewers with what is possible.
In recent years, the dynamic relationship between art and its future has evolved into a nuanced and intricate interplay, continuously reshaping our world. Technology now plays an unprecedented role, although it has always been intertwined with art throughout history. Innovation and experimentation have long been pivotal, from ancient cave paintings to the latest digital creations. Today, artists harness technology more than ever to forge new and inventive modes of expression, while also delving into the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of technological progress. We invited visionary artists to join us in redefining the canvas where traditional mediums converge with technology. VANGUARD features artists that explore the transformative intersection with cutting-edge mediums. From the timeless strokes on a canvas to the latest digital innovations, this exhibition aims to bridge the gap between enduring contemporary practices and the pioneering advances of our time.
"I'm thrilled to announce my curator’s choice of artists for the Vanguard exhibition: Felipe Aguilar, MGOGLKTKO and Fabi Cruz.
Carlos Luna James, known as MGOGLKTKO, brings a different but equally compelling perspective. As a multimedia installation artist from Juarez Chih, Carlos blends physical and digital art to create immersive installations that draw from science fiction, fantasy, culture, and technology. His optimistic and empathetic worldview shines through his work, which seamlessly incorporates digital screens, projectors, sound design, and video mapping. Carlos has showcased his work at prestigious venues like Sotheby's and has made a mark in the NFT space with exhibitions at NFT Liverpool and NFT NYC. His collaborations with industry giants like TIME Magazine and the Latin Grammys further highlight his position as a leading voice in contemporary art.
Felipe Aguilar’s "Reality Change" series poignantly captures the universal human narrative of migration through the lens of the Cuban Diaspora, blending traditional and digital techniques to create immersive, thought-provoking experiences.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, 1984. Graduated in Visual Arts from La Sorbonne University - Paris I - (Paris, France). She currently lives and works between Paris, France and Valencia, Spain, where she continues her research into visual music and synesthesia, explored through new technologies like Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Fabi Cruz is a Venzuelan artist and musician living in Paris and Valencia, researching visual music and synesthesia. Fabi’s creative abstract animated videos in which she translates the music she composes into shapes, colors and movement, according to her own synesthetic perception are remarkable. After graduating from La Sorbonne University she collaborated with Atelier Athem, for a projection on the facade of the Cité de la Musique, in Paris, and with the Miami Symphony Orchestra for a projection on a sculpture by Zaha Hadid located at the Moore Building. Tam Gryn chose Fabi Cruz for her exhibition "Vanguard" due to Cruz's innovative and interdisciplinary approach to Visual Music, which uniquely bridges the gap between auditory and visual experiences. Renowned for her ability to translate her compositions into vibrant, animated videos that embody her synesthetic perception, Cruz's work captivates and creates a sensory crossover that allows one to "see sounds and hear colors."
These artists push the boundaries of their mediums, offering fresh and innovative perspectives that make them ideal curatorial favorites for our exhibition.”
