AUTUMN 2024
Call dates: OCT 3- NOV 3, 2024
Show runs NOV 22 - DEC 15
OUR JUROR:

ART: MARINÉS ADRIANZA
A metaphor for togetherness and division, around a table or in the field, artists interpret gathering as a ritual or a necessity in our evolution.
At the heart of "Gather" is the emotional narrative of human relationships. Each meal, each gathering, tells a story—not just of food, but of who we are together and apart. Whether it's the simple joy of shared laughter or the quiet discomfort of strained relationships, the act of gathering reflects our most human emotions. This call asks artists to capture those moments of connection and complication, where gathering becomes a metaphor for both togetherness and division.
Invitation to Artists:
Artists are encouraged to push the boundaries of their medium and explore how meals, both mundane and ritualistic, serve as a powerful lens through which we view human connection. We invite works that are intimate and personal, as well as those that look outward at broader social and cultural dynamics. From the tension of estranged family members sitting at the same table to the warmth of friends sharing a celebratory feast, "Gather" seeks to explore the emotional spectrum of what it means to come together.
The act of gathering is the weaving of individual threads into a collective fabric, where each strand strengthens the whole. It is an unseen force that amplifies the energy of those present, creating a resonance beyond what any single voice could achieve. In gathering, the boundaries of the self blur, and we become part of a larger rhythm, harmonizing in ways both known and unknown.
Malcolm Gladwell (author and sociologist):
"The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire."
— This emphasizes how gathering and collective action can create powerful change.
Maya Angelou (poet, civil rights activist):
"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color."
— This speaks to the value of gathering diverse groups together.
Accepted work:
We extend an invitation to artists across all mediums of 2D, 3D work. Photographers and emerging artists as well as college students are encouraged to submit. Our goal is to present a dynamic diversity of perspectives and interpretations from all ages, races and differences that make us beautifully human.
All mediums welcomed. This is a virtual exhibition— international artists, photographers and videographers (under 3 min, a longer version can be linked) are encouraged to submit to this call.

1. to bring together : collect; tried to gather a crowd; gathered firewood. 2. a : pick, harvest; gather flowers. b : to pick up or amass as if by harvesting. — Merriam Webster

TIPS ABOUT YOUR SUBMISSION, FILES, BIO & ARTIST STATEMENTS
These are key to helping your audience understand and connect to you and the reasons you spend time making art for public viewing.
Name your files Please follow instructions in Submittable to name your files when submitting. It gives you SEO power and it causes a lot of problems for us when files are not named correctly or at all. It is unfortunate but we will start cutting artists that do not name files, submit proper bio and statements in 2025. Don’t let this happen to you.
Artist statements should connect the work to the language in the call and clearly demonstrate your experience with your process, risk-taking and incorporation of new concepts, evolving with the future of art, in whatever capacity that encapsulates for you as an artist. Upload a statement about this work and how it connects to the call. Add a simple few sentences onto your statement acknowledging the words in the call. Don’t leave it to jurors to make the connections. This is your chance to captivate them.
Most calls for art dictate a new thoughtful interpretation for the curators, who are tasked with understanding your art from a photograph and through your descriptions. They must understand how your piece applies and what about your work merits inclusion in this particular exhibition. Connecting your ideas to a reason or a story about your perspective is impactful for viewers and other artists, it engages the viewers and encourages the curators to think about your perspective and reason for making your artwork. This story is what connects people to your work.
Your Bio should tell the personal story about your background, education, accolades and status as a working artist. Each of us have a unique experience in life that shapes our perspectives and our passions. What message emerges from your adventures in life? What has shaped you and influenced your work? What innate and unique elements exist because your hands created them. Stories have connected people for millennia. What in your background pushes you to make art? We challenge you to drill down on your story to connect with more viewers.
